The exhibition “Beyond the Weave: Contemporary Dialogues with AlSadu” presents a new perspective on Kuwait’s textile heritage through contemporary artistic practice. On view at the Middle East Institute in Washington, D.C., the exhibition brings together works by twelve Kuwaiti artists who participated in the Sadu Art and Design Initiative (SADI) residency program.

Through installations, textiles, and mixed-media works, the artists explore how the visual language of Sadu can be reinterpreted within contemporary art and design. Their works move between abstraction and material experimentation, tracing Sadu across image, object, and experience while demonstrating that tradition remains vibrant through dialogue with new voices and perspectives.

The exhibition also celebrates cultural exchange between Kuwait and the United States, highlighting the role of craft as a bridge between cultures and generations.
