Hayat Al-Bloushi joined AlSadu Society in 2018 through the training program designed for art teachers at the Ministry of Education. As part of the Train the Trainers in the Art of Weaving initiative, an educational program led by AlSadu Society, she was introduced to traditional weaving under the mentorship of AlSadu master weavers Umm Naif and Mutayra, where she learned traditional weaving techniques. This early experience sparked a deeper interest, which she later cultivated through her participation in the Insij program.
For Hayat, textiles are a way of life and a language that connects generations of different communities. She sees it as a powerful means of expression, one that bridges and unites women from diverse backgrounds. Her passion for craft extends beyond weaving to include patchwork, crochet, hands-on learning, inkle loom weaving, and tatting. Tatting is a delicate lace-making technique that has become Hayat’s favourite. As she said, “I like to try and know every craft, not just observe it.”
A dedicated educator, Hayat leads Fun with Textiles, an AlSadu initiative offering workshops for children aged 8 to 13. She fosters a love of making in younger generations through hands-on sessions in macramé, weaving, and textile play. Witnessing children succeed while engaging in what she is most passionate about is her ultimate success. For Hayat, nothing is more fulfilling than seeing young people flourish through creativity and connection.
