At DAZZALAB it is important for me to look for new ways to represent the dazza gifting tradition in a way that minimizes waste and adds beauty and value. The concept of DAZZALAB is the creation of dowry vessels that functions beyond the day of the event itself, and is used as a piece of furniture within the domestic environment, and yet is a sentimental piece which reminds the bride of her special day.
This stackable shelving unit is inspired by the earring motif from Sadu weaving patterns.
The earring symbolizes womanhood and beauty and this specific motif was chosen because of Jewelry being a main component of dazza gifts. A colorful Sadu woven strip is used in each unit and the white wood color was selected to emphasize the Sadu and create an emphasis on flowers. The shelving unit can be used as a console at the entryway of a house or as a tv unit.
The design process is a teamwork between Aisha AlMass, a recent interior Architecture graduate – Kuwait University who interned at DAZZALAB during the summer of 2022 and Malek Jaroudi, Interior Architect who graduated from Eastern Mediterranean University North Cyprus Who is a valuable team member at DAZZALAB.
The design can be customized to order and is a prototype for an extension of products such as Jewelry boxes, partitions etc. The dimensions of each unit: 95 x 40 cm.
